Save the Date: Housing Leadership Day 2010 October 15th!
Be Part of the Conversation!
Housing Leadership Day is approaching once again. Building upon last year's sell-out success, we intend to bring a wide variety of voices and topics to the table as we discuss how housing has become a significant part of just about every major community issue we face today.
Check out our Housing Leadership Day webpage periodically as the conference takes shape.

Get Involved! - HLC's Community Builder Program
You can make a huge difference by getting involved in your community's process to update its housing plans and meet the need for homes at all affordability levels. We are working with members of your community to enable them to effectively engage with local government and express their desire for healthy, sustainable communities that everyone can afford to live in. HLC’s Community Builders Program is fostering community-based leadership that is informed and educated about today’s housing issues.
» Create more effective zoning plans and regulations through local Housing Element processes

Affordable Housing Week 2010 a Success!!
Over 13 Events Held, Over 900 Participants!
This year saw a week of wide ranging events, each highlighting an aspect of the importance of housing affordability. The creation of sustainable and walkable communities became an important theme this year as well and was reflected in this year's Legislative Policy Breakfast on SB375 implementation.
Wells Fargo was one again Underwriting Sponsor for the week, with additional sponsorship support from U.S. Bank.
HLC Endorses Two New Mid-Peninsula Housing Coaltion Developments!
Housing Leadership Council recently reviewed and proudly endorsed two of Mid-Peninsula Housing Coalition’s developments in San Mateo County:
2000 South Delaware Street, San Mateo:
The site of the former San Mateo police station, it is proposed for a 120 unit, mixed-income, transit-oriented development, with half the units affordable to lower-wage-earning families. The proposal falls within San Mateo’s Rail Corridor Plan adopted in 2005, which is intended to promote “to allow, encourage, and provide guidance for the creation of world class transit-oriented development (TOD) within a half-mile radius of the Hillsdale and Hayward Park Caltrain station areas, while maintaining and improving the quality of life of for those who already live and work in the area.”(Rail Corridor Plan, Executive Summary) HLC felt that this development not only serves this purpose, but also provides a creative design despite severe financial constraints as a result of today’s difficult funding environment.
636 South El Camino Real, South San Francisco:
Revitalizing an area along El Camino currently occupied by mobile homes, this 107 unit development, which also includes 20 supportive housing units, provides another example of South San Francisco’s commitment to the vision of walkable, sustainable development along the “Grand Boulevard” that El Camino can become. Don’t worry, residents living in the mobile home park have first access to the new homes created!
